About the map:
Published by a Flamish cartograph Abraham Ortelius ( 1527 – 1598) in 1590, entitled: “Pannoniae et Illyrici Veteris Tabula”– Ortelius was a creator of the first modern atlas, the Theatrum Orbis Terrarum (Theatre of the World)
– He is also believed to be the first person to imagine that the continents were joined together before drifting to their present positions.
– Map shows ancient Pannonia, Illyricum, regions of Adriatic Sea (today Balkan) and Dalmatia (in 10 ad, under Roman Empire)
– Map text is in Latin language.
– Cartouche upper leſt: “Vis consili expers mole ruit sua”. [Violence without judgment collapses under its own weight.]
– Abraham Ortelius dedicates this map in memory of his friendship to Mr. Ludovicus Hallerus of Hallerstein as a wreath for his erudition, candour of mind and true nobility.
– Lower centre: “Cum Gratia et Priuilegio | decennali 1590”.[With grace, and a privilege for ten years, 1590].
– Cartouche in lower left with 11 lines of places of uncertain location.– High resolution reproduction with hand made antique finish on durable and resistant cotton canvas.
– Every detail on the map is clearly readable.
– Frame is hand made frame, made of an old solid rustic wood dark brown, old jute rope included for hanging. Wood belonged to an old, used wooden boat from Adriatic sea.

About the map, ready for your wall:
The first large scale map of North America and the most accurate at the time. It shows the extent of the British, French, and Spanish colonial possessions. The information on the map was based on Popple’s work at the Board of Trade and Plantations in London. Popple’s map was widely copied by other cartographers and remained the standard map of North America for several decades.
– The map was a profound statement of England’s designs for dominance of the North American continent, at a time when colonial control of North America was by no means certain.
– Popple’s map is the first large scale printed map to show the thirteen colonies.
– The map shows the extent of the British, French, and Spanish colonial possessions.
– The information on the map was based on Popple’s work at the Board of Trade and Plantations in London.
– George Washington owned a copy of the Key map (Popple’s abbreviated version) and Benjamin Franklin ordered two copies for the Pennsylvania Assembly in 1746 and another in 1752.
– Include four views: Mexico City, New York, Quebec and Niagara Falls, and a sheet with eighteen harbor and island plans from Annapolis Royal in Nova Scotia to Porto Bello in Panama.
– Authentication statement of Edmund Halley at the map bottom verifies the accuracy of the map!
