Historical area maps
History and geography continuously teach us precious lessons. Its philosophy shows us what mistakes we should have rejected as humans and encourages people to look for answers in our cultural heritage. You can surely agree that the best way to visualize history is by studying history charts and graphic displays of past events. It is an excellent experience for world history enthusiasts to find drawing resources in one place, not just from a past time or hobby perspective, but also for those still studying, since we are talking about maps with accurate historical data. Suppose you are interested in a particular region or kingdom or just browsing for the name of one specific location (some thousands of years ago). In that case, you can find it all here among our unique history maps!
History records have different objectives. For example, you can learn the distribution of ancient tribes and populations, trade routes or social movements, and how the boundaries shifted over a certain period.
An ancient kingdom’s place, shape, and size are no longer a mystery, thanks to historical drawings. In addition, historical resource maps! provide hints of what resources one area possessed and how that area evolved.
Topographic maps
Are you more into topographic maps? No problem whatsoever, we have just what you need. Topographic charts, with contour lines showing elevations, are produced by the Geological Survey for the entire country. The maps range from the vastly detailed scale maps to generalized -scale state maps. Wonderfully, the state drawings without contours are also accessible in our store. For example, with varying detail levels, topographic diagrams of Kansas are accessible from the Kansas Geological Survey.
Each map covers an area of huge landscape and shows lakes, towns, creeks, rivers, roads, ponds, pipelines, quarries, radio towers, landing strips, airports, townships, cemeteries, vegetation, and rural buildings. They are accessible to the whole state.
Some of the questions you may have on your mind when you buy a map from us
Do maps make for a unique or good gift?
Absolutely! Whether we are talking about someone’s home country, region, or town, their favorite holiday place, their wedding (or any other special moment-related) place or considering a period in time or subject matter of interest, a map is one of the best gift ideas ever. Why?
You can leverage this to display an artistic style to their liking, making such a customized map a remarkable gift.
Use our maps to choose a perfect gift for any occasion, including Christmas, birthdays, graduations, weddings and wedding anniversaries, Valentine’s Day, work anniversaries, farewell gifts, or simply a lovely surprise gift to let that person know how much you care.
Are old Topographical maps an excellent financial investment?
We do not foresee our maps and financial investment as we are not financial advisors. We receive feedback that many people who bought maps in the 1980s and 2000s have made a profile selling their plans decades later. However, from our experiences, maps do not get value with age but are more concerning current interest from collectors. Due to different factors, some periods, styles, and subject matters of diagrams can get in high demand after specific years.
Are city maps affordable?
Yes, we believe anyone can afford a city map of their own; however, the finishing look of the map is linked to specific costs. For example, diagrams are offered by OldMapster for as little as $100.
Still, considering the size, the unique and historically narrow intake needed, or rare materials used in making the final product, some maps may reach as much as $100k. However, since the value of the maps does not derive from their period/portrayed age, one can get an antique drawing from as early as the sixteen centuries for less than $250.
How do I know if an old map is authentic and genuine?
There are many things to look for, which can differ by the type of chart you have and the time it was made. One thing to check is the paper. Does it look and feel like new paper? Is there anything on the back, or is it plain white?
Many river maps were made from steel engravings, and copper plates have a plate impression on the paper around the diagram image. Does your map have one, and if so, can you feel it? Further, many maps were printed for atlases and have a centerfold. If your map has a centerfold, ensure you can feel it; if you can see it, but it is perfect to the touch, then it is just a period image of the centerfold, and the map is fake.
